Daily Living
Skills Trainer

As a Daily Living Skills Trainer, you will be a guide for people with disabilities and teach daily living skills at home and within the community. The skills each person/child works on are based on team decisions, and you will be a valuable member of the team. Your primary role will be to help those with disabilities build independence through mastering daily living skills. To assist with generalization, we work directly out of clients homes, so skills are built within each person’s direct environment.

Respite
Caregiver

A respite caregiver is a caregiver who temporarily takes the place of a primary caregiver, providing care and assistance to the individual in need. This care is offered on a temporary basis and looks different per each clients needs. This care may include supervising activities, assisting with personal hygiene, and accompanying clients on outings.

Discovery &
Career Trainer

Having a career can mean a life full of independence, connection with others and self-purpose to a person with disabilities. As a discovery and career trainer, you will build relationships and gain knowledge and skills working with individuals with disabilities in a real-world setting. You will work with our clients to determine their interests and observe how they handle situations to determine successful career paths. Together with local employers we will develop work experiences that utilize their strengths and build their confidence toward long-term
personal and financial independence.

Open Caregiver Jobs at Focus on Freedom

As a Daily Living Skills Trainer, you help individuals with disabilities gain independence by assisting with building routines, helping with meal prep, teaching good hygiene habits, and a variety of other life skills. 

Daily Living Skills Trainers at Focus on Freedom use everyday routines paired with guided and repetitive training in a familiar and supportive environment to build confidence and empower those with disabilities to live a more independent life.

Experience & Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is a plus but not required.
  • Reliable transportation. Depending on your client’s needs, you may be asked to transport your client around the community.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Some college coursework is a plus but not required.

Working Hours

  • Must work a minimum of two shifts per week (shifts vary in length from 2 to 4 hours, based on client needs).
  • Hours vary by position and the client you are working with but range from 2 to 4 hours per day up to an 8-hour day. 
  • Time of day varies depending on your schedule, as well as the client’s. We are VERY flexible with working around school or work schedules.

Pay

  • Starts $15/hour, depending on experience

As a Personal Futures Trainer, you work directly with our clients to determine their interests. observe how they handle situations, and find successful career paths. With mentorship from Focus on Freedom leaders, you work with local employers to develop work experience programs that tap into your client’s strengths, boost their confidence, and guide them toward long-term personal and financial independence.

Respite Caregivers provide short-term breaks for full-time, unpaid caregivers (typically the parents/guardians of individuals with disabilities) through special needs care. Respite care helps relieve stress, renew energy, and restore balance in families with disabilities.

  • Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is a plus but not required.
  • Reliable transportation to get to and from the client’s home.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Working Hours

  • Must work a minimum of two shifts per week (shifts vary in length from 2 to 4 hours, based on client needs).
  • Hours vary by position and the client you are working with but range from 2 to 4 hours per day up to an 8-hour day. 
  • Time of day varies depending on your schedule, as well as the client’s. We are VERY flexible with working around school or work schedules.

Pay

  • Starts $14/hour, depending on experience

Individuals pursuing a degree in nursing, psychology, human services, education, or a related field may hold a dual trainer/internship role at Focus on Freedom. Internships include goal setting and regular check-ins. In addition, if you are earning college credit for your internship, Focus on Freedom will work with you to make sure opportunities to meet internship credit requirements are available.
